    Abstract:

Using 2002 urban household surveys UHS data, we find male employees are paid approximately 31% more than their female counterparts In this paper, we use the wage decomposition proposed by Brown which takes into account occupational differences We find the unexplained component accounts for approximately 72% of the overall gender wage differential and most of which within intraoccupational, people always relates this unexplained potion to discrimination, on the other hand, 28% is due to effects of difference in individual characteistics This indicates in order to effectively reduce the gender wage difference, we should not only take action to imprave women’s human capital stock, but also adopt a series of policies to eliminate the discrimination on the market, secure the employment status of women.
