Ai Qing’s change in the “Debate on Misty Poetry” has implied several significant meanings: maintaining the mainstream ideology as his higher status; fighting for discourse power in Chinese poetry sector; sticking to the value of a real artist; misunderstanding in personnel. By reexamining the change of Ai Qing’s standpoint, we can find out the contradiction happened in the New Period between the two “returning” generations with different background so as to understand history in vivid details and think how to resolve “the problem of the century” of China.
