Based on the published paper from 1998-2006 with a Chinese address samples, indexed by the SSCI, the author tries to adopt a scientometrics approach to analyze patterns of social science in China, including total papers，disciplinary distribution of papers, published countries This analysis reveals some interesting characteristics of China’s research cooperation with the world, especially with USA, UK, GERMANY, FRANCE, ITALY, JAPAN and RUSSIA Policy recommendations are made on how to improve the productivity and quality of social science and international cooperation in China
