    Abstract:

Quintilian is a great educator and rhetorician in Roman Empire as well as the ancient founder of modern Higher Education. His Institutio Oratoria intensifies the classical tradition of Graeco-Roman education. His ideal of perfect orator is no doubt a mirror for reflecting the gain and loss of our modern education. This essay is a rudimentary introduction of Quintilian and his Institutio Oratoria for Chinese academic circles and it is expected that the essay would lead to a further understanding of Quintilian.
