    Abstract:

The origin of the Boxer and the origin of the Boxer Rebellion,in spite of being linked to some extent, are two issues. “The Boxer was from Shandong”. However, the Boxer Rebellion was initiated from the eastern areas of Sichuan. It is the Second Uprising led by Yu Dongchen rather than the uprising led by Zhao Sanduo or the one led by Zhu Hongdeng that started the Boxer Rebellion. Because there is no substantial difference between the Boxer Rebellion and missionary cases and the forms of organization and rite are just some of the external characteristics of the Boxer Rebellion, and also because the Second Uprising led by Yu dong Chen is the same as or similar with the Boxer Rebellion in some important aspects, the Second Uprising led by Yu dong Chen promoted the Boxer Rebellion in nearly half of the country and was intrinsically linked with the outbreak of the Boxer Rebellion. Breaking through the traditional statements of the origin of the Boxer Rebellion, such as “Shandong version” or “the North version”,will be helpful to understand the Boxer Rebellion more completely.
