    Abstract:

This paper has an exploration on the constraints of specificity in poetry translation, based on the theory of cognitive linguistics concerning specificity and compared with different English Versions of Li Bai’s three poems. As a result, we find that translators, consciously or unconsciously, not only have been constrained by specificity on the comprehension of the original poem, but also do their best to achieve “specificity equivalence” to the original poem in translation.
