This paper presents a method of tamping for improving unconsolidated sand and gravel foundation backfilled on the flood land,and introduces the principles of soil improvement with some engineering cases. Results from the field tests show that this method is reliable,economical and feasible.It provides reliable basis for applying this method on other similar engineering projects hereafter.
