The latest advance in the study of the macromolecular structure and macromolecules stacking structure of coals were reviewed. The viewpoint that there are complex variation and ordering in coal macromolecule stsructure is put forward. It is suggested that the macromolecular structure of coals be divided into three levels?the skeleton of carbon atoms (Basic Structural Unit), the metwork of cross-linking bonds and the edge groups in BSU.
