Nowadays, a great number of cities in China are undergoing a large scale of renovations and renewals. For dealing with the main problems during the process of old city renewals, we should begin with the following two aspects. One is improving urban design theories, and then, the other is amending design methods. For example, we should give emphasis to preserving the original variety of cities, combining the urban design and people’s needs, using small-scale development patterns corresponding with urban landscape, and then, encouraging citizens to participant design and establish evaluation systems in order to create a more vital urban space.
