Abstract:Analyzed the necessity of civil engineering courses in English, the authors summarize the key factors that contribute to the success of underground engineering course in Tongji University, such as teaching resource, teaching materials, teaching method and assessment method. The authors consider that the course in English should train the students’ ability of gaining professional knowledge. Universities should offer English courses that are complimentary to the courses taught in various subject areas. A fund that supports visiting scholars giving lectures should also be established.
