Abstract:
Ethics education may play a role of ‘silk road’ in both fostering virtue/mentality through education and cultivating engineering talent. Engineering ethics education needs to focus on the interrelationships between itself and students’ study and social life so that it can reinforce students’ participation. Firstly, it attempted to build the relation between students’ surroundings (e.g., social life, engineering experience) and ethics, thus mitigating the barrier between them. Secondly, it cultivated ‘large-scale engineering’ by integrating morality appraisal, value judgement and dialectical analysis, and furthermore, widened students’ breadth of mind and vision, thus providing reference and enlightenment for students’ academic and professional development. Finally, it attempted to discover ethical tradition, risk consciousness, and systems engineering idea from traditional culture, thereby promoting the dialogue between tradition and modern ethics. Its overall objective was to help students realize true value and significance of learning ethics, and improve their interest and sensibility to ethics.
