Abstract:
As the largest developing country in the world, China has a huge demand for civil engineering professionals. More than 20% of colleges and universities in China have set up civil engineering majors. This paper selects six representative universities at home and abroad that ranked the top 50 in civil and structural engineering in QS World University Rankings by Subject 2021 - 2022, investigates and compares their undergraduate training programs of civil engineering, so as to provide reference for China's colleges and universities to build a world-class civil engineering major. The main conclusions and suggestions are as follows: (1) the six universities are generally consistent in talent training objectives; (2) the number of courses required for undergraduate graduation of domestic universities, Tsinghua University and Zhejiang University, is significantly more than that of four foreign universities; (3) Tsinghua University and Zhejiang University are weaker than other top universities in Humanities and art courses (except Nanyang University of Technology), which is superior to the top foreign universities in terms of the richness of professional courses available for elective courses; (4) it is suggested that the civil engineering major in domestic top universities can appropriately reduce the total number of courses, appropriately increase humanities and art courses, and give students more extracurricular learning and consumption time, so as to finally achieve the balanced and coordinated cultivation of "knowledge transfer", "value shaping" and "ability training".
