Abstract:
With the construction of new engineering and the“double first-class”universities in China, the teaching reform for graduate courses is an important aspect to improve the quality of graduate students. As an inevitable demand for universities to speed up the way of internationalization, how to explore a suitable way for international courses construction, regarding the teaching mode, teaching methods and teaching team, etc., to meet the top talent training objective for China’s graduates is still an urgent problem. Taking a typical international course “Environmental Quality and Wellbeing” as an example, this study addressed the integrated construction of “education” and “research” of the course, and elaborated in details the characteristics and experience on course content, teaching method, evaluation method and teaching team. The course pays attention to the overall design and constructs a multi-level curriculum content system from foundation to promotion and to expansion; meantime it links the teaching content with research projects and practical innovation and introduces the latest professional journal papers or special reports as teaching materials to expand the teaching breadth and depth. The course guides the interaction between “teaching” and “learning” with systematic thinking and problem based learning, through setting up multiple modes such as communication and interaction, discussion, case study, special report, paper review and so on, which cultivates the postgraduates’ abilities of critical thinking, scientific research and innovation. The course focuses on the construction of high-quality teaching team and introduces a number of teachers and experts with outstanding academic achievements from multidiscipline to build an international joint teaching team. Through the interdisciplinary teaching, the course promotes the interdisciplinary integration in the field of built environment, broadening the knowledge breadth of graduate and overcoming the narrow vision of traditional curriculum teaching and single knowledge structure. The course exhibits the advantage of the overall design of international curriculum construction and the integration of high-quality international resources. The work provides an excellent demonstration for international curriculum construction for universities in the field of built environment. Further it is expected to share experience and guide thinking for promoting the internationalization process of national graduate education, cultivating high-level talents with international vision and innovative vitality, and promoting discipline development during “double first-class” construction in China.
