Abstract:
Under the background of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals, the talent cultivation is facing significant opportunities and challenges for the Major of Building Environment and Energy Utilization Engineering. To promote its transformation and upgrading, The teaching team in Hunan University had strategically developed a professional core curriculum titled "Low Carbon Building Energy Technology" to address the issues of traditional Building Energy Technology courses, such as non-systematic teaching content, singular teaching approach, and disconnection among teaching, research, and industry. Firstly, the teaching content was continuously optimized with timely updating of classroom teaching content, targeted supplementation of cutting-edge knowledge, and in-depth exploration of ideological and political elements within the curriculum. Secondly, the experiential learning approach was promoted by developing an advanced virtual simulation platform to facilitate students understand smart energy systems of buildings in-depth. Finally, the existing barriers among teaching, research, and industry was broken by the establishment of an Industry-University-Research Cooperation platform and the introduction of a new course design with invited industry mentors for guidance. Since the construction of the curriculum, fruitful theoretical achievements were made, including the Four-in-One curriculum system, the experimental teaching method of " Virtuality and Reality Combination" and the teaching resources with distinctive characteristics of the integration of science and education. It could provide theoretical basis and teaching guidance for innovation and optimization of “Low-carbon Building Energy Technology” and similar courses in our country. Practice had proved that the initiatives effectively addressed the issues in the curriculum, achieving positive teaching outcomes. The improvement of the curriculum could significantly enhance the professional competence and innovation capability of students in the major of Building Environment and Energy Utilization Engineering, so as to meet the requirement of high-quality technical talents for the dual carbon goals.
