Abstract:As a core theoretical course for undergraduate students in urban and rural planning, "Regional Planning" urgently needs to undergo innovative optimization amidst the trends of shortened academic system from "five-year to four-year," high-quality innovative development, and changes in both institutional and personal orientation. This article analyzes the current difficulties and issues in the teaching of regional planning courses and proposes that the integration of knowledge goals, skill goals, and ideological and political education goals, with a focus on enhancing students" three major abilities, should be the core. It advocates a "series-parallel" integration and reconstruction of the theoretical course group to form a regional planning curriculum system that is well-ordered, focused, and closely interconnected. It also proposes to establish an integrated teaching model that covers pre-class, in-class, and post-class activities, and explores teaching practices that combine theory with practice, integrate science with education, and blend virtual with reality to ensure the smooth progress of the course content.
