In the context of the digital-intelligent era, in response to the new demands for aligning the cultivation of surveying and mapping professionals with the intelligent transformation of the industry, this paper takes the Surveying and Mapping Engineering major at the School of Civil Engineering and Geomatics of Southwest Petroleum University as a case study to explore reforms in the talent cultivation model for surveying and mapping disciplines in ordinary universities. Through a thorough analysis the current limitations and challenges in cultivating such professionals, this research proposes comprehensive reforms across the "admission-training-employment" chain. The reforms include: innovating enrollment models for surveying and mapping programs to address the severe loss of top students due to major transfers; establishing a talent cultivation system guided by "ideological and political education, demand-driven approaches, diversified innovation, and industry-university co-creation"; and constructing a high-quality employment service system featuring "forward-looking planning and positive interaction." Furthermore, the paper distills the reform experience into a transferable "One Body, Two Wings, Three Guarantees" model framework. The aim is to achieve the talent cultivation objectives of "attracting, retaining, and successfully graduating" students, thereby providing experiential insights and reference value for similar ordinary universities in terms of enrollment strategies, talent cultivation systems, and employment support.
