Soil Mechanics is one compulsory foundation course for civil engineering major, which includes both theory and practical aspects Its contents and teaching system are different from those of other courses Heuristic teaching method is convenient to this course to help students study it actively In this paper, heuristic teaching method in soil mechanics is introduced with shearing strength chapter, and some suggests on heuristic teaching method are proposed
