Guangdong Province is at the forefront of China’s economic development and its local colleges and universities have occupied remarkable position and played a vital role in serving and promoting the local economic construction with distinct regional characteristics. We conducted the in-depth analysis and study of the regularity of the establishment and development of local colleges and universities in Guangdong, the strong support of the talent cultivation, the emphasis point of the scientific innovation application, and the core point of the humanistic spirit inheritance, explored effective ways as to strengthen the relationship of local colleges and universities with the society, and proposed new trends and new approaches for the effective cooperation with the regional governments, enterprises and the general public. The result is a reference for the development of social service functions of the local colleges and universities in other provinces of China.
