The impact of organizational slack on exploring and exploiting internationalization: Dimensions of resources rarity and absorption

    国际商务领域的研究仅区分了国际化的探索和利用动机,突出了组织冗余对于国际化的战略意义,但却未剖析组织冗余如何影响探索性国际化、利用性国际化;组织领域关于冗余资源与探索、利用之间关系的研究更是得出了矛盾性的结论。本研究基于资源稀缺性和吸收性将组织冗余划分为四种类型,并实证检验了四种类型组织冗余对探索性国际化、利用性国际化的差异性影响。研究发现,财务冗余(非稀缺、非吸收冗余)对探索性国际化具有正向影响,对利用性国际化具有负向影响;关系冗余(稀缺、非吸收冗余)、运营冗余(非稀缺、吸收冗余)、人力资源冗余(稀缺、吸收冗余)对探索性国际化具有负向影响,对利用性国际化具有正向影响。研究结论弥补了目前国际商务与组织领域的研究缺口,对于国际化企业具有实践启示。

    Abstract:

    Existing international business research only distinguishes the exploring and exploiting motives of internationalization, and points out that organizational slack is important for firm's internationalization, but ignores to discover how organizational slack impacts exploring and exploiting internationalization.Except that, organizational research on the relationship between slack resources and exploration or exploitation also obtains contradictory conclusions.Based on the resource rarity and absorption, this paper divides organizational slack into four types and examines how these four slacks influence exploring and exploiting internationalization.We find financial slack is positively related to exploring internationalization and negatively related to exploiting internationalization, meanwhile, relationship, operational and human resources slack are negatively related to exploring internationalization and positively related to exploiting internationalization.This study bridges the gap in international business and organizational research, and helps firm internationalize.
