Abstract:Based on the established corpus of more than 1000 English texts as the subjects, this study intends to integrate three theories: Mann &Thompson’s (1987,1988) RST, Bhatia’s (1993) genre analysis and Nattinger& DeCarrico’s (1992) formulaic language, to make module annotation of texts. This study aims to explain how these three theories are combined to guide the text module annotation and demonstrate the theoretical feasibility. A general template of academic writing is established as the basis of the module structure annotation. The main purpose is to help writers use more professional and normative language in academic writing.
