Abstract:The Great Divergence: Europe, China, and the Making of the Modern World Economy written by Kenneth Pomeranz has been published nearly 20 years. Tremendous repercussions were aroused from the time it came out. Even in recent years, great divergence is one of the hottest topic among academia. As one of the typical research objects, China issue is the core of the debates, and Chinese academia naturally becomes the main position of controversy. The tendency of decentralization, the selection of comparative units, and the cause of great divergence are the three key points of the debates. Lots of scholars have published relevant articles. At the beginning, most of comments stayed at the level of criticism and reflection. With the deepening of discussion and research, a large number of specific research emerged. Overall, debates on great divergence among Chinese academia keep on escalating and show a transition trend from theoretical debates to empirical studies. It is a process of combination between new paradigm and academic practice as well as a process of deepening academic exchanges between Chinese and international academia.
