Abstract:Hydrodynamic models have been widely applied to river and coastal engineering projects. Understanding the hydrodynamic process is a prerequisite to modeling the pollution and sediment transport process. Hydrodynamic models of varying degrees of complexity should be selected appropriately according to the object of study, physical properties of the flow domain and hydrodynamic features. The essential procedure of hydrodynamic simulation is described in this paper. The main problems such as selection of model dimension in physical space, choice of variables, boundary conditions, initialization, design of computational grid, model resolution, parameterization of smaller scale fluctuations and sub-grid scale processes, model calibration and verification are investigated.

Abstract:In this paper, the water resources development and water environment protection in Chongqing is analyzed systematically by investigating and monitoring for water, especially, the water ecology protection in Three-gorges reservoir region is discussed. It is proposed that there should be five protection systems for water formed in Chongqing and it is of great value to the authorities concerned.

Abstract:In this paper, the application of reinforced earth technique, principle and calculation method, new reinforced materials developed and produced are introduced. Abstract:An experimental research on the 22 samples of Chongqing sandstone was carried out on the INSTRON press machine. Based on the experimental results, the failure types in the four applied loading paths were analyzed. The deformation and strength properties of Chongqing sandstone were discussed. The quadratic functional relations between the confined pressing and the maximal strain (or the maximal deviated stress) were proposed, which could be applied to the estimating the maximal deformation and strength of Chongqing sandstone under different confined pressing.

Abstract:The present paper gives a discussion about transport coefficient of suspended sediment, coefficient of saturation recovery, riverbed sediment grading, deposition/scour thickness and normalization of the sediment composition in gravel dominantly riverbed. The math model above mentioned has been tested in two rivers with different riverbed sediment composition and a rather good agreement has been obtained.

Abstract:The frequency aperture given in this paper is a new method that describes the fracture aperture composition. The aperture curve plays a role in describing the aperture distribution and uniformity. In particular, the frequency hydraulic aperture is of great importance in seepage analysis. It overcomes limitations of hydraulic aperture and mean aperture. Based on existing information, the result of example calculation shows that the hydraulic aperture e h equals to the median aperture e 50 . This paper also obtains that the frequency hydraulic aperture e sh equals to e 48 through finite element numerical modeling for various type of random fracture.

Abstract:Based on the field data of berthing velocity for the ship (10000t-50000t), the berthing velocities have been numerically simulated by using Monte Carlo method in this paper. After statistical tests, it shows that the maximum values of the berthing velocity follow a Gumber distribution and the probability curves of failure for the means of maximum values are also obtained. The present results have been compared with the ones determined by specification of harbor engineering both at home and abroad.

Abstract:In this paper the amendment of No.18 pile in 19th pier of Citong Bridge in Quanzhou city is presented. There is a soft layer 6.41m thick in No.18 pile,a site cast concrete pile,due to breakdown of guide tube during casting. Amended by consolidation grouting, the pile stood up to tests. The construction technology, adopted steps and test method were introduced. It can serve as reference to similar engineering.

Abstract:In this paper, the advanced construction technology and site management applied in bid construction part B of Yangtze River bridge in Jiangyin was presented in detail. This bridge is the largest span bridge in China, where the advanced technology applied is: 3-d coordinate control surveying in bridge tower, small powder for artificial pile, over-form and climb form in construction of tower column, temperature control for casting mass concrete. It is of great value for reference to large bridge building.

Abstract:Among 194 bacterial strains isolated from three representative sludge samples, 14 strains, which could produce efficient MBF, were obtained after screening and re-screening. These MBF had shown positive effects on treatment of four kinds of selected wastewater. However, after examining the hereditary stability of flocculation activity for bacteria, most of the strains lost their ability in producing effective MBF except for the I-41 strain. The I-41 is a bacillus G + amphibacterium. Meanwhile, the model of MBF-producing bacteria is found in this trail program.

Abstract:For the stability analysis of the reinforced earth retaining wall with cohesive backfill, this paper assumes that the state of failure surface is circular sliding surface and the bearing capacity is straight line relation with capacity and length of the reinforcement strip. These formulas agree with actual state of the reinforced earth retaining wall with cohesive backfill and result in saving reinforcement material in the design.
