本介绍了同济近期组织的几种形式的结构设计竞赛活动，认为课外设计竞赛和在教学环节中引入带竞赛机制的课程设计项目，可以成为校园内学生参与创新性工程设计的两种基本形式，并提出在这类设计竞赛活动中，应当体现创新性、综合性、可行性、独立性、参与性的原则。
