Teaching reform of architectural professional master"s design course under local demand orientation: a case study of urban renewal course for first-year graduate students at Chongqing University
In the context of China"s urban development transitioning from incremental expansion to stock optimization, urban renewal has become a crucial approach for high-quality urban development and a focal point in architectural design research. At the same time, cultivating innovative professional talents to meet the demands of future urban development has become a key aspect of architectural education reform. The school of architecture and urban planning of Chongqing University takes the urban renewal design course for master degree students majoring in architecture as the object, aiming at the teaching bottleneck of the traditional design course, puts forward the teaching reform idea of taking "local demand" as the core, combining the university with the local area, and integrating multiple disciplines. By constructing a research-oriented and participatory design teaching process guided by needs and problems, they guided students to progressively develop a comprehensive systematic thinking, professional practice ability, and innovative consciousness to deal with complex urban phenomena. This provided more possibilities for the students" future diversified development. The teaching reform closely revolved around the training needs of professional master"s students, achieving a shift from theory to practice and from single-discipline to multi-disciplinary integration. It now offers a reference case for the field of architectural education.
