Abstract:English for civil engineering is a branch of English for special purposes (ESP), which is defined to meet specific needs of the learner. Based on ESP theory, the current situation and problems of the English teaching for civil engineering were summarized. The reform of English teaching for civil engineering was methodically discussed through teaching practice and cause analysis. Key points of the teaching reform were presented, in which specific object, course optimization, update for the center of teaching activities and promotion of English faculty were involved.
