Abstract:In recent years, the disciplines of urban & rural planning and human geography experienced several adjustments, which are in consistent with the trends of enhancing the theoretical and comprehensive study in the discipline of urban & rural planning and strengthening the professional skills in the discipline of human geography. These adjustments bring good opportunities to the development of new majors by clarifying the coverage of majors, the interdisciplinary relationships and the training direction. Meanwhile, the development of new majors face several challenges, for example, the lack of training program, the limited school hour and the lack of social identity. In this case, we need to seize these opportunities brought by the reform. We should give full play to the traditional superiority of geography in the researches of basic theory and empirical analysis. And in the process of organizing teaching activities, the new urban and rural planner may grow up by combining the advantage of the geographic information technology.
