The urban and rural planning postgraduate education system in China is just getting started, and seems not adapt to demands of the social and professional practice. We summarized characteristics and trends of the development of urban planning education system in eight advanced countries and regions, and analyzed the mode and change which combined the professional education system with the registered planner system. Then we summarized the experience of the establishment of the system, training objectives, and quality evaluation criteria, and presented some suggestions to the urban and rural planning postgraduate education system.
