Abstract:China’s small towns’ construction should not only refer to developed countries’ successful experiences, but avoid detours they have encountered. According to the requirement of the 17th Convention of the Communist Party of China, we should choose an urbanization way with Chinese characteristics. Instead of discussing some macroscopic problems such as how to choose the way of urbanization, this study tries to conclude some regularity practices of small towns construction from developed countries such as America, Japan and Germany based on some concrete problems, and puts forward some suggestions which should be appropriate for China’s actual conditions and its small towns construction.

Abstract:The paper hackles research literature of foreign housing priceincome ratio systematically from these angles of origin, measurement and application. This review shows that housing priceincome ratio evolves out of and is better than housing expenditureincome ratio; the diversity of measurement of housing priceincome ratio depends on the diversity of measurement methods of housing price and income, and equilibrium models of housing priceincome ratio; housing priceincome ratio is mainly applied to the research of housing affordability and real estate bubble. Standardization of calculation, integration of equilibrium models and multiangle of empirical study would be the directions of further housing priceincome ratio research.

Abstract:Based on cointegration test, error correction model and Granger causality test, the empirical study on the construction investment and economic growth in China during 1995 to 2008 has been conducted. The study shows that there exists a longterm cointegration relationship between the construction investment and economic growth. The evidence shows that the construction investment is significantly positively related to economic growth. The study also shows that there exists twoway Granger causality between the construction investment and economic growth. Variance decomposition analysis indicates that the impact of construction investment on economic growth is much larger than that of economic growth on construction investment. The policy implication is that, economic growth could be effectively adjusted by controlling construction investment.

Many countries or districts list celebrity spokesman as the subject of the advertising legal relationship and provide that celebrity spokesmen has duty of care to consumers. Although there is a deficiency of the legal system on celebrity spokesmen’s activity in China, precise application of the article 8 of the tort Liability Law within the framework of the fundamental principle of the civil law can still provide strong remedy for the consumer.

    • The Influence of Adult Cognitive Learning Style on Input Processing in Second Language Acquisition: Evidence from Chinese Learners’ Acquisition of the English Articles

      Abstract (2090) HTML (0) PDF 1.30 M (1119) Comment (0) Favorites

Abstract:Stylistic differences between children and adults in cognitive learning can account for differential SLA results. Previous research mainly dealt with interlingual influences, focusing on L2 acquisition of the phonetic system. The present study made an investigation into Chinese learners’ acquisition of the English articles and revealed that influences of adult cognitive learning style on input processing also exists in the learning of grammar. Such influences occur not only between the native and the target language, but also in the development of intralingual knowledge. Empirical data of the present study show that adult L2 learners tend to adopt assimilation to process input and this cognitive learning style may impede the interlanguage development.

    • Lexicunion as a Unit of EFL Vocubulary Acquisition

      Abstract (1556) HTML (0) PDF 1.07 M (1052) Comment (0) Favorites

Abstract:In order to synthesize EFL vocabulary acquisition research, a concept of acquisition unit is needed that emcompasses various lexical phenomena and has sufficient explanatory power. It is argued in this paper that such a concept must meet the requirements of inclusiveness and applicability. Whereas the “word” concept is deeprooted in vocabulary acquisition research and may exert unfavorable impact on vocabulary teaching and learning as well as testing, the “lexical unit” concept implies a neglect of the teaching and learning of the function words, which undermines the vital importance of the function words in L2 use. These two concepts fall short of inclusiveness and applicability. In this paper I propose a concept of “lexicunion” as the acquisition unit of EFL vocabulary. The “lexicunion” concept satisfies both inclusiveness and applicability, and at the same time considers the burden involved in both learning and using L2 vocabulary, thus better reflecting the complexity of the process of L2 vocabulary acquisition. This concept may be useful in discussing the interaction between EFL learners’ linguistic competence and their vocabulary knowledge, and may eventually contribute to the synthesis of L2 vocabulary acquisition research that is based on different acquisition units.

Abstract:On the basis of Long’s Interaction Hypothesis, Vygotsky’s Social Interactionism and the theory of noticing from cognitive psychology, the research explored types of output modification moves used by Chinesespeaking learners of English, and the impact of task type on modification moves and correct language production in L2 learning. The results from the observational study showed that the Chinesespeaking learners of English used 10 types of modification moves in their interaction with peers, including confirmation checks, clarification request, comprehension checks, selfcorrection, othercorrection, repetition, scaffolding, metalinguistic talk, solicitation of assistance and unsolicitated explanation. We believe that these modification moves may ‘push’ learners to improve language production, and may help them to reconstruct their interlanguage system. The second study examined the effect of task type on the amount of mutual scaffolding and oneway scaffolding moves used and correct use of language, which produced these findings: (a) in contrast to the open, optional information exchange task with divergent goals, the close, required information exchange task with convergent goal pushed the learners to use greater amount of scaffolding move; (b) in addition, the close, required information exchange task also elicited more mutual scaffolding move, which helped the learners to integrate greater amount of language into their interlanguage system; and (c) the open, optional information exchange task brought about more oneway scaffolding move, and lower percentage of correct language integration in the delayed test.

      Abstract (1975) HTML (0) PDF 977.24 K (1085) Comment (0) Favorites

Abstract:Cognitive Poetics is a newly-developed literary theory since the seventies the 20th century. With the development of the cognitive science worldwide, its theories have infiltrated into other fields of studies. Cognitive science is combined with literary criticism in an effort to form a new theory: cognitive poetics. It is an outstanding achievement of interdisciplinary study. This paper explores the origin, evolution and the status quo of cognitive poetics studies in the west. It analyzes systematically Reuven Tsur’s contribution to construction of the theory as the origin of the study and introduces the theorists, such as Stockwell, Gavins, Semino, and Culpeper, of same area in the UK and the USA relating to the development of cognitive poetics. Simultaneously, the paper advances the hypothesis that the newly developed paradigm of literary study should be regionalized and be endowed with Chinese characteristics.

Abstract:The harmonious development of higher education is a main content of harmonious society which is difficult to achieve without the support of equity of higher education. After an analysis of the content and characteristics of equity and harmony of higher education, the close relationship between equity and harmony of higher education is exposed. It is argued that the equity of higher education is the critical support and necessary means of the harmony of higher education, while the harmonious higher education is the principal guarantee and final direction of the equity of higher education. In order to achieve harmonious higher education, the equity of higher education should focus on four aspects: strengthening the concept of educational equity, improving the policy of educational equity, allocating the resources of higher education reasonably, and optimizing the environment of educational equity.

Abstract:This study investigates the contemporary status of college student needs and students’ ways to cater such needs. We find three new features that are noteworthy: first, the strongest type of need is the employment need, which also has an impact over the evolution of college student needs on learning, ability development, as well as interpersonal relationship; second, the need on participating in public administration becomes increasingly important; third, the internet has become an alternative option of students to meet their various needs and students’ dependence on the network is growing. According to our empirical results, we propose a framework of constructing the studentneedoriented responding mechanism.
