      2014, 20(1):1-17. DOI: 10.11835/j.issn.1008-5831.2014.01.001 CSTR:

      Abstract (2179) HTML (757) PDF 4.46 M (1475) Comment (0) Favorites

Abstract:Population is the mediating variable to build the link between the society and economy while spatial distribution of population is a global issue. In contemporary China, migration, as a result of the urbanization, is determined by the level of socio-economic development. Urbanization is the main content of the evolution of the urban-rural and regional demographic distribution during the process of demographic, economic and social interaction. On the temporal level, the mode and evolution of socio-economic development is endogenous to the population and structural changes. On the spatial perspective, the suitability of regional demographic distribution includes both urban-rural and regional content. Through combing and concluding the literature, we believe that it is of high value for academic innovation and practice instruction to summarize the characteristics of demographic spatial distribution and to explore the pattern of spatiotemporal evolution. As the most populous country, China is striving for the economic and social stability to solve the population issue. China’s development has come to the crossroads, so population studies cannot disregard/ignore the changing circumstances. It is not only an important academic proposition, but also a conundrum of social and economic practice. Research and analysis should be based on China’s reality. The logic mainline through this paper is demographic transition and spatial distribution. The theme is the coordinated development of population, society and economy. The target is to construct a theoretical framework of spatial distribution of the Chinese population.

Abstract:House price fluctuation on the influence of the urban consumption aroused widespread concern. Adopting the panel data about urban residents’ income on different levels in Chongqing and consumption panel data, this paper compares the regional consumption differences in districts divided according to the idea of “One Ring Two Wings” and thus examines the influences of house price fluctuation on income and consumption. Besides, the paper introduces annual index of GDP per capita which reflects the level of macroeconomic and annual growth rate of savings amount as control variables and carries on the investigation with stock financing amount as the instrumental variable of house selling price. The result shows that: there are inevitable cause-and-effect relationship between per capita disposable income and consumption spending under house price fluctuation and also significant consumption differences among urban residents on different income levels. Besides the rising of house price has the crowding-out effect on all urban residents while the house wealth effect is not effective; the disposable income of current period is the most important factor in determining real estate consumption. Hence, raising the income level of resident, adjusting income distribution structure, increasing the people’s livelihood engineering investment are effective ways to increase consumption spending.

    • The Impact of Operations Capability and Marketing Capability on Firm Performance: An Empirical Study on Chinese Listed Firms in IT Industry

      Abstract (1990) HTML (485) PDF 1.42 M (1039) Comment (0) Favorites

Abstract:Adopting the financial data of listed firms in Chinese IT industry in fiscal year 2012, this paper uses quantile regression analysis method to prove that marketing cost is the main reason affecting sales volume of firm, while assets, size of labor force and firm managerial ability are the determinants of the operating cost. Based on such analysis, this paper constructs an equation considering marketing capability and operations capability as the independent variables, and return on assets (ROA) as the dependent variable. This paper argues that firm performance is an important indicator to measure the firm operation status. Along with the expansion of firm scale, the marginal effect of the managerial ability on operating cost tends to decrease, while the marginal effect of labor size and firm assets tend to be incremental. Furthermore, with the expansion of sales scale, the marginal effect of marketing investment on sales volume tends to be incremental. Operations and marketing capabilities have a positive impact on firm profitability level, but the marginal effect is progressively decreasing. In order to achieve long-term sustainable growth of firm performance, operations capability and marketing capability should suppose to match each other.

Abstract:This paper makes a comparative analysis about enterprise group’s growth pattern mainly from development path, organizational structure, governance structure, and government-enterprise relations among Britain, United States, Japan, South Korea and China. It is showed that the British-American model is market-oriented, the Japanese model is a combination of industrial capital and financial capital, and the Korean model is the government’s leading. Three models all have their own advantages and disadvantages. With unique Chinese characteristics, the enterprise group of China is developing rapidly under the guidance of the government, but it differs greatly from the enterprise groups in developed countries. Therefore, with the improvement of marketization in China and the fierce international competition, Chinese enterprise groups should draw lessons from foreign enterprise groups, improve their own development and enhance international competitiveness.

      Abstract (1561) HTML (407) PDF 1.49 M (1168) Comment (0) Favorites

Abstract:Investigating results indicate that most collateral companies benefit from the special policies given by government to resolve financing difficulty of middle-small-sized firms, but those companies covertly carry out other non-collateral occupation. Analysis based upon institution transformation suggests that single collateral operation can not give enough bread to collateral companies, so collateral company would necessarily depart from the main operation and chase the potential profit in the process of institutional transformation, by undertaking profitable items. Such an institutional transformation is at the beginning step, i.e. the initial acting group has come into being and the operational program directing every step of institution transformation is in the air. So government is advised to direct collateral company to try their best to take shape their core-competitiveness in the process of operational expansion.

Governments offer ecological welfare as a benefit to meet public living needs and societal development requirements. In conformity with the basic characteristics of legal rights, ecological welfare takes a new form of legal interest. It is not only a pure moral interest stemming from public health, but it is also a new type of human right resulting from public ecological right that needs legal protection. To facilitate the protection of ecological system, transformation of ecological welfare into right and guaranteeing public ecological welfare are both required, which has been proved crucial by practice across the world.

After years of key construction, several domestic well-known universities established their educational goals as the world high-level universities or the world first-class universities, but the overall progress is not satisfactory. A group of young colleges, such as the University of Waterloo(Canada),the University of York(UK), which were established after World War II, have achieved outstanding academic achievement and high academic reputation within just a few decades. They have gone out of an excellent development path to become the Young World Elite Colleges. It has the value and significance of the same type comparison for a large number of China’s young colleges and universities. Based on defining the Young World Elite Colleges, the profile and the effectiveness of excellent development of the University of Waterloo are briefly introduced. And the basic experience of excellent development of the University of Waterloo has been the focus of analysis. In response to the gaps and shortcomings of the construction of the world high-level universities in China, some enlightenment or suggestions are put forward, such as refining the educational goals of excellence, implementing the innovation-driven strategy, adhering to the orientation of entrepreneurship development, paying attention to the construction of the administrative team and actively participating in the global academic competition.

Abstract:Social thoughts have impacted significantly on the value pluralism and its conflicts of college students. Presently, value conflicts faced by the college students are the following: conflict between middle school value and college value, conflict between traditional value and modern value, value conflict between abstraction of the ideal and concreteness of the reality, conflict between individualism value and collectivism value. The reason for the value pluralistic confusion and conflicts of the college students are allure of the capital, cruelty of the reality, individual subjectivity and spread of various unhealthy social values. Therefore, we must lead college students’ value by socialist core value system, strengthen the leading integrity of socialist core value system, innovate the leading mechanism of socialist core value system and strengthen the supporting role in the construction of campus culture.
