Abstract:Humane quality education mainly cultivates students’ humane spirit. It teaches students to correctly master the relationship between human and human, human and nature, and human and society. At present, absence of humane spirit in college students whose major is science and engineering is serious. The paper presents reasons why science and engineering majors generally lack humanistic quality, and puts forward concrete measures to improve students’ humane quality, such as changing educational concept, improving teachers’ humane quality, strengthening art education and creating the campus culture with humane spirit.
Abstract:The construction of aesthetic culture of architecture has been neglected in the teaching of architecture-related subjects. We analyzed the main causes of the situation and elaborated the significance of constructing aesthetic culture of architecture from four aspects: to inspire aesthetic thinking, to promote understanding of aesthetic, to establish the aesthetic and cultural psychology, and to enhance the aesthetic cultivation. Finally, we gave implementation strategies for the course construction to promote the development of aesthetic culture of architecture course.
Abstract:The esthetic education is an important way to cultivate the healthy personality, and it is irreplaceable. Nowadays, aesthetic education in universities and colleges was applied primarily in the form of quality-education programs. However, how to further broaden students’ aesthetic taste is a big problem. A subtle aesthetic edification is necessary. Campus is the material carrier of the university spirit. Students’ abilities of understanding and appreciation of art will gradually increase if they live in an environment which is full of art.

Abstract:China had established the goal of being the innovative county in 2020. Improving the independent innovation ability of colleges and universities and cultivating innovative talents is the human resource base to achieve an innovative country. One focus of the reform of civil engineering education at home and abroad is how to train innovative talents of civil engineering. We discussed the idea of civil engineering education reform from aspects of emphasizing on integrated innovation capability, coordinating development with social environment, being more concerned about the practice, and strengthening students’ practice ability.

Abstract:We presented the specialty construction of building environment and equipment engineering in P. R. China. The education mode and curriculum setting were compared with those in the UK, Hong Kong, and the Unites States. The result shows that the domestic curriculum scope is very narrow and it doesn’t reflect multi-disciplinary characteristics. To cultivate students with solid knowledge and wide vision, more general platform courses (such as architecture, structure, acoustics, electric, fire control, etc) are needed to connect similar disciplines.

Abstract:With rapid expansion of postgraduate enrollment in P. R. China, the quality of postgraduate education is the focus of higher education. Five problems including enrollment, teaching quality, science research activities, dissertation management, and ideological and political education of postgraduate were analyzed, and relevant advices were proposed to improve the quality of postgraduate education.
Abstract:Architecture color can reflect local view, history, tradition, characteristics, environment and weather condition of a specific region. Considering the architecture color in the urban plan can change the situation of urban architecture color chaotic and create a pleasant colorful environment. Abstract:Most large-scale commercial space can meet customers’ multiple demands. However, there are many problems about the space cognition and way finding in their inside space because of large-scale and complex function. Creating good commercial guiding space can offer convenience to customers, satisfy owners’ commercial profits, and produce better social and economic benefit. Moreover, it can evacuate crowd people rapidly in the sudden calamity and decrease casualty accident.
Abstract:Course groups of underground structure in civil engineering of P. R. China and Japan were compared. The comparison covered general course setting, natural science and engineering principal courses, professional foundation, and professional courses. The total study hours (or credits) and the percent of study hours (or credit) for various course groups to the total one were analyzed. Based on the analytical results, we presented drawbacks of the course group of underground structure in P. R. China, and proposed advices and suggestions to improve the education condition of underground structure in P. R. China.

Abstract:One bottleneck of teaching system of engineering management majors in higher finance and economics colleges and universities is the unbalance of knowledge structure due to lack of engineering technological background. The training feature and curricular characteristics of management personnel in finance and economics colleges and universities were introduced firstly. Then, after the discussion of core rule of teaching system for engineering technological curricular, one teaching system design which architectural mechanics and building structure were considered as the core was proposed. The proposed design is a new idea in curricular teaching and would be helpful to engineering technological teaching in finance and economics colleges and universities.

Abstract:It is a requirement to cultivate innovative construction engineering professionals for construction and the development of the nation as a whole. It is the first priority for the teaching reform to enhance students’ innovation ability in professional teaching. Abstract:To get rid of a long period adverse situation that the Chinese architectural design is always influenced by foreign advanced concepts and has no competitiveness in the world, we must pay more attention on training students with creative thinking. Through analysis of the defect of cultivating students’ creative thinking in current architectural undergraduate education, we proposed an open and interactive education pattern: closely teaching. Combined with three application strategies of “close type of topics”, “interactive and equal teaching atmosphere”, and “training model combining production and leaning”, we discussed how to close the distance of students and design teaching, teachers, and society, which can stimulate students’ creative thinking.
Abstract:We investigated the job post and job-seeking intentions of municipal engineering graduates in recent years. The result shows that it is the demand of social development to cultivate application-oriented talents. We compared the training mode of academic-degree postgraduate and professional-degree postgraduate in many aspects, and illustrated the trend of reform on the postgraduate training mode.

Abstract:Interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary teaching mode of courses group of fundamentals of architectural design is an advantage formed by the combination of architecture and art and design in Beijing Jiaotong University. It aims to change the traditional teaching mode that the architectural art course and the architectural design course were independent in domestic universities and colleges over years. By the combination of art and design courses, cross-disciplinary and professional interaction were achieved, and students’ design thinking, spatial awareness, aesthetic taste and architectural design ability were improved, which can enhance students’ employ competence. The teaching mode is helpful for training innovative talents.
Abstract:I studied the teaching of architecture cartography course. In traditional teaching, the architecture cartography course was defined as how to draw buildings. Teachers took it as an instrumental learning course. According to this situation, I did a particular research by setting three specific units which are study the nature of things, understanding, and expression. Using these units can stimulate students’ creative spirit. The architecture cartography course should not only be a course about skill of drawing buildings but also a course related to the thought of design.

Abstract:Design principle of concrete structures is an important professional course of civil engineering. It has strong engineering concept and systemic scientific theory. To improve students’ analysis ability to meet the social demand, the teaching idea and teaching methods should be changed to adapt to the times. The course has the characteristics of many contents, covering a wide range, intensity experiences, multiple equations, many symbols, several regulations of structure and strong practicality. To realize the training targets, we presented teaching methods of heuristics, introduction, comparison and discussion based on our teaching experiences, which achieved good teaching effect.
Abstract:Civil engineering construction is one of the important courses of civil engineering specialty. It is practical. So how to teach it and achieve a good teaching effect is a considerable question. Combined with the situation of teaching reform on civil engineering construction in Taiyuan University of Technology, we proposed suggestions of reforming on teaching model and teaching methods. To enrich the teaching content and improve the teaching quality, we used some methods such as on-site visits, seminars, and multimedia in the teaching process, which provided a reference for the teaching reform.

Abstract:The courseware participation teaching method was adopted in the heating ventilating and air-conditioning (HVAC) course. The anonymous feedbacks after the teaching reform show that the teaching method had a positive effect on the learning initiative and participation of the students. We discussed in detail the strategy and operational approach of putting the teaching reform method into effect. Then summarization was made based on students’ feedback information. We hope it would be helpful in the cultivation of high quality and innovation-oriented talents through the teaching reform.
Abstract:Of the student autonomic learning-oriented and teacher guidance-supplemented teaching mode, the discussion teaching method was applied in air conditioning engineering teaching. A series of studies on selecting items, teaching form, evaluation and teachers’ assessment were proposed. The key of a successful classroom discussion lies in items selecting, student’s active participation and teacher’s instruction. The result of teaching practice shows that discussion teaching method can develop student’s comprehensive applied ability and innovative ability, so as to enhance the teaching quality of air conditioning engineering effectively.

Abstract:The basic concepts and analysis techniques of signals and systems are important fundamentals for communication, control and signal processing fields. With the rapid development of modern science and technology, it is sure that more and more disciplines will take the signals and systems course into their undergraduate eduactional programs. By means of the internet, we investigated the signals and systems course offered by the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in MIT. The course orientation and the basic course structure including the basic information, teaching methods and basic requirements as well as grading were objectively introduced, which is an useful reference for the teaching reform of alike courses in our country.

Abstract:The course of introduction to building energy efficiency is fit for the requirement of building environment and equipment engineering specialty, which is good for students to learn the knowledge related with building energy efficiency systematically. Bilingual teaching is benefit for both specialty knowledge and language application. Based on teaching practice, establishment and construction of this course were analyzed and studied, including the course content and structure, the objectives, the teaching materials and teaching methods. The responding of students was achieved by questionnaire. The result shows that the ability of using English can be improved in studying specialty courses, but language is regarded as the difficulty during bilingual teaching. Chinese and English should be dealt with well. Besides, some teaching measures, like mutual discussing, multiple teaching materials and case study, are very useful.

Abstract:Bilingual-teaching mode for students majoring in water & wastewater science and engineering, and environmental engineering was discussed in the application of active-learning teaching method for bilingual-industry-water treatment course. Knowledge transfer and English ability of students were both improved by well-prepared course organization, the combination of basic theory and advanced technology, flexible teaching, diverse assessment and active-learning methods. Feedbacks show that the method achieved good effect and was accepted by students.
Abstract:Academic English plays a very important role in the education of engineering colleges of P. R. China. China’s WTO accession brings more and more international exchange. To training talents adapted to the social development, academic English teaching is more important in universities and colleges, which is an impetus to bilingual teaching. Based on my experience in academic English teaching, some aspects of teaching in geotechnical engineering such as objectives of teaching, selection of textbooks, and teaching methods were introduced. In addition, how to improve the teaching effect of academic English was discussed as well.

Abstract:We firstly analyzed existing problems in engineering management practice teaching, and proposed that optimization and innovation should be carried out from its idea, structure and content. Based on the “gradual integration” teaching mode, we put forward three practicing layers as “skill, ability and innovation”, and optimized the content of practice teaching such as practice, experiment, and design. Abstract:We summarized the teaching reform in recent years in Faculty of Architecture and Urban planning, Chongqing University. The teaching reform is to adapt to the socialist market economy construction and development. The reform was carried out in the higher grades (grade3 to 5) of architecture major from several aspects including the teaching method, the teaching media, the course content, and the assessment mechanism. Good teaching quality was achieved by the teaching reform, obtaining a high score in the national teaching evaluation.
Abstract:With the establishment of 2008 Beijing Olympic Gymnasiums and 2010 Shanghai EXPO Pavilions, new types of long span spatial structures appear rapidly. Engineering projects should be introduced in the process of teaching steel structure design. Latest research and engineering cases should be presented by modern teaching methods, which can enhance the ability of practice and cognizance for students. In the teaching process, as-constructed drawing and working drawing of complex steel structures can be introduced to students in detail to enhance their interests and enthusiasm. Practice shows that initiative of students was increased and favorable teaching effects were achieved.

Abstract:Recognizing practice is an important part of city planning teaching, but there are lots of problems due to the unsuitability of teaching modes with development of times. To solve these problems, we took the recognizing practice reform of the city planning specialty in Hefei University of Technology as an example and discussed a three-phase method from view to understanding in the teaching reform, which improved the teaching quality and achieved good results.

Abstract:As a supplement of steel structure course, Tongji University took the lead in building a multi-functional test platform for teaching in P. R. China, on which a course named basic principles of steel structures was offered. The test course included cognition test, demo test and self-designed test for students of different levels. Practiced and explained by teachers, a large variety of tests in close accordance with syllabus were included in demo tests, which could deepen students’ understanding of basic theories and make up for the disadvantage of classroom teaching. Self-designed tests were designed and practiced by students, which could improve their practical abilities and study initiative. Within three years of practice, 1 500 students have been involved in the test lessons. The test course achieved good teaching effect.

Abstract:There are many problems in innovative education for undergraduates such as the limitation of experimental conditions and lack of high-level teacher resources in the experimental center. To solve the problems, we put forward a teaching reform, which focusing on theoretical teaching, experiment and practice teaching, and the second class teaching. A new “three levels and two combinations” mode of urban construction and environmental engineering experiments and practice instructions was constructed, which can help students to stimulate their great interest in exploring and creative enthusiasm, and to cultivate their innovative thinking, consciousness and creative ability.
