Abstract:Most regions in Asia are undergoing the process of urbanization currently. Therefore, construction of human settlement environment with high cultural and ecological diversity is very important. In this study, characteristics of the human settlements in Southeast Asia were investigated. Based on the illustration of apparent aesthetic characteristics of architectures, the underlying ecological, sustainable and local properties were analyzed, and causes for its formation and development were studied deeply. Based on the investigation, we found that religious belief, insistence on traditional culture of local people, and comparatively backward economic development were the main reasons. This study is helpful for arouse attention of urban planners on ecological and cultural diversity of human settlements, which is aiming to provide solutions and suggestions to solve problems such as loss of cultural context and lack of spirit of place in the process of rapid urbanization in Asia.

Abstract:Based on the analysis of architectural heritage protection education system of the developed countries, we pointed out that Chinese higher education is not good enough in heritage protection education. And combined with the success experience of domestic and foreign heritage education, we proposed that colleges and universities in our country need to develop universal education, professional education, and social training in the conservation of architectural heritage. We also deeply studied on curriculum system, teaching contents and teaching methods of the professional education.

Abstract:Undergraduate research is a new approach of education reform, about which the United States of America walk in the forefront of the world. We analyzed the history of American undergraduate research and domestic development situation and pointed out that organization management and training mode are the basic conditions of undergraduate research. It is necessary to improve research ability cultivation in the following five aspects, which are setting relevant research courses, perfecting knowledge structure, advocating research teaching, heightening teacher research ability, and encouraging students to take part in research training activities.

Abstract:The modern college students always are smart and flexible, but they are also distinctive and prefer not to succumb to routine at the same time. Therefore, individualized teaching methods respecting for individual differences are the most scientific in teaching. Building environment and facilities engineering is a new specialty which has an extended field established by the Ministry of Education. The professional training direction, ideas and methods are confused in most colleges and universities. We proposed measures including the “platform+module” training reform, the implementation of tutor system, and extensive professional and innovative practice to achieve the individualization cultivation of building environment and facilities engineering students.

Abstract:Currently, the construction industry is gradually developing to the direction of general contracting. For general contracting, the project manager should have a strong professional ability. However, the domestic project managers still have a large gap in knowledge system, professional quality and professional ability compared with the foreign project managers. Professional qualification standards based on the performance evaluation is the basic way to enhance the ability of project managers, which is still a blank in China. Therefore, it is necessary to study and establish the system. Based on drawing lessons from the British National Vocational Qualifications and the implementation of the general contracting system, we studied and established a vocational qualification standard system of general contracting project manager which has international characteristics. In addition, the empirical research was carried out. The aim is to retrain the applicants and to update their knowledge, so the international competitiveness of construction industry in our country can be improved.

Abstract:The degree regulation was set in 1980 and it has been last more than 30 years. As the scale of enrolled graduated students and degree types increased, it is necessary to modify the degree regulation, especially the master degree regulation. The graduate students' education regulations and the quality control methods in USA and England were analyzed firstly, and then the modification and advice were presented. It is necessary to focus on the professional education, foundational theories and comprehensive knowledge instead of the thesis and exam scores. It can be a reference for the master degree student education system reform.

Abstract:In the study of concrete structures course for civil engineering, it is usually tough for students to understand the construction measures to guarantee the bending bearing capacity of a reinforced concrete beam without the basic idea about the anchorage of steel bars in concrete. In this paper, a simplified theoretical model to determine the anchorage and development length of steel bars in concrete was proposed first. Then the bending bearing capacity of a reinforced concrete beam was analyzed and the moment-resistance diagram was set up which has been wrongly described in most text books recently in China. Finally, the construction measures, such as the anchorage length of longitudinal steel bars inside a support for a simply supported reinforced concrete beam and the cut-off points of longitudinal steel bars in the negative moment area of a reinforced concrete beam, were explained in detail based on the idea of anchorage of steel bars in concrete. Teaching experiences in Tongji University show that the basic concept of anchorage and the methodology to relate the anchorage to the bearing capacity of concrete beams logically can help students to understand the complicated construction measures of reinforced concrete beams clearly.

Abstract:With the development of culture economization and economy culturalization, cultural economy has turned into an important form in the present world. Cultural trade is also playing an increasingly important role in the world trade. In the international cultural trade, some countries set discriminatory provisions for cultural trade based on their own interests, which made the “cultural exception” become the criterion for cultural trade friction. Obliviously, those countries overstated the specialty of the cultural trade. Cultural exception principle is confronting the dilemma both theoretically and practically. Following the micro to macro sequence, the predicament of cultural exception under the WTO framework was discussed first, then the loss due to the cultural trade protection was evaluated based on the benefits analysis, and finally the solution of cultural trade friction under WTO framework was discussed.
