Abstract:Aiming at the problem of relatively limited in the size of benefited students among the commonly adopted mode of training prominent undergraduates, an approach based on the condition of a specialty itself was proposed. It can be implemented independently in the period of undergraduate without additional educational resources and it is favored to more students. It is also suitable for training prominent undergraduates. Proper goals and primary corresponding means were elucidated to provide a beneficial complement to the existing training mode and a reference for relevant practice of prominent talent training.

Abstract:There is a prominent contradiction between increasing demands of compound talents in civil engineering transformation and increasing pressure of employment in universities and colleges. Taking comprehensive universities as an example, we focused on civil engineering specialty construction and researched on objectives and approaches of training compound talents of civil engineering by using subject resources. To adapt to the new trend of civil engineering development, the training mode of multidisciplinary penetration was also explored, which includes engineering, information, geology and mechanics.

Abstract:The building decoration engineering specialty has a characteristic of highly integration of technology and art. Abstract:The history of the education for full-time professional postgraduates in China is short and training systems are not perfect. We proposed a practical ability training system for full-time professional postgraduates from aspects of course teaching, construction of professional practice base, double-supervisor mode, assessment indicators and management of practice process, and management of dissertations. The training system was applied in architecture and civil engineering specialties and good teaching effects were achieved.

Abstract:Aiming at current status that the practical ability of professional teachers in technological colleges and universities is relatively weak, the caused reasons were analyzed. Combined with “National Outline of Medium to Long Term Educational Reform and Development Planning” and relevant requirements of “Excellent Engineer Training Program” established by the Ministry of Education, an integrated training mode was proposed to improve the practical ability of teachers according to the system of universities. Specific measures were presented including training professional teachers in enterprises, employing technical personnel as part-time professional teachers, using laboratory and practical training base, and assessing professional teachers’ practical ability.

Abstract:The construction industry and engineering management fields have high demands on students’ professional skills and practical ability. The engineering management education, however, has been focusing more on classroom theories than industry professional skills or student hands-on practice. In contrast, engineering education in the United States traditionally emphasizes student practice and hands-on skills. We compared and analyzed different models, approaches and effects in developing students’ professional skills of engineering management between Chinese and American construction majors. General recommendations were made to reform the engineering management education in China.

Abstract:Based on the teaching reform of primary architecture design in Chinese University of Mining & Technology, we researched on teaching reform ideas and measures. Followed with the principle of “site-space-tectonics”, students should do some design work for different elements which are in the same site. They should also learn to observe the design with different viewpoints. Finally, the different designs would be integrated at the end of the course. The teaching reform can train students’ sense of space, observation ability, and team cooperation ability.

Abstract:The background of teaching reform of high-rise building structure design course was analyzed. In the modularization teaching reform process, the orientation of engineering ability was presented, the high-rise building structure design was set as a module, the basic idea and contents of the module were discussed, and the teaching plan and implementation of the module were put forward. In the teaching process, we should pay attention to the interpretation of relevant design specifications and reinforce the evaluation on students from aspects of theoretical study, independent study and practical design.

Abstract:Material mechanics is an important course for civil engineering specialties in universities and colleges. We carried out teaching reform on material mechanics course based on actual situation of the third stage undergraduate students of civil engineering. At the same time, problems existing in the teaching course were also considered. Engineering ideas, as the new teaching theory, were studied from several aspects, including update of teaching material, optimization of teaching outline, construction of engineering case database, and application of teaching handouts for padding. The results show that students’ learning interest and the teaching effect are improved, which verifies that the curriculum system based on engineering ideas is suitable for the actual situation of the third stage undergraduate students of civil engineering.

Abstract:Based on the new code Seismic Design of Buildings GB50011-2011, several technical terms revised in this latest version were mainly discussed. A comparison study of the new code and the old one GB50011-2001 was conducted. Primary theoretical foundations about the revision were investigated in detail and a comprehensive and complete summary of the revised contents in the new code was made. Besides, new requirements on teaching methods following the new code for the seismic design of buildings course were put forward. It can be a reference to engineers to better understand the new code.

Abstract:The design course of sophomore plays a crucial role in the architecture teaching system. Taking the community center of sophomore as an example to analyze the “investigation, analysis, and design” process, students can find problems and solve problems in the survey. They can take questions as breakthrough points to think about architecture and design, and pay attention to environmental, urban, and social factors that influence buildings, which are helpful for their problem solving skills and correct design concept.

Abstract:Fluid mechanics is a basic course in science and engineering specialty. It is theoretical and difficult and contains many knowledge points, which are not easy to be understood for most students. In the construction process of excellent course of fluid mechanics, the multimedia teaching method, layered teaching mode, and heuristic teaching mode were gradually carried out in the traditional teaching practice. By introducing the CFD into fluid mechanics course teaching and combining scientific research projects with innovation practice activity, students’ knowledge was consolidated, their understanding of fluid mechanics was strengthened, and their innovative ability was improved.

Abstract:The rapid design is an important way for urban and rural planning specialty training students’ creative thoughts, examining their integration capability, and enhancing their employment practice ability. It has attracted the attention of colleges and universities in recent years. We analyzed the importance of rapid design and the actual demand of employment. Based on the professional ability demand of employers and the experience of our university in training application-oriented talents for many years, we studied rapid design teaching in the following four aspects: methods of improving teaching ability, teaching content settings and specific teaching methods, final assessment scheme and rules for the grading, and teaching process feedback according to the test result. Finally, we presented a set of feasible teaching scheme.

Abstract:The teaching of professional basic courses is the important core-sector in the university educational process. To effectively guide students’ active study, a multi-dimensional curriculum model was constructed according to the knowledge system, course contents and teaching methods. The parts in the knowledge system were connected by a common knowledge point. The course contents were divided into three layers using the layered curriculum model. The teaching methods were selected by the course contents and students. At last, a professional basic course, principles of steel structure design, was selected to illustrate how to build and apply the multi-dimensional curriculum model in teaching practice.

Abstract:Test and measurement technology of building environment is a practical course. Based on characteristics of the course, problems in traditional teaching were analyzed. The teaching reform mainly targeted to the comprehensive training link by organizing students to design a practical measuring system. Many questions were found, such as incomprehensive system design, unreasonable equipment installation and inaccuracy data processing. Abstract:A novel diversified model of teaching was designed and applied based on analyzing the traditional teaching models and investigating the perceptual learning modalities of students. By the reformation and exploration in teaching processes of building economy courses, various teaching methods were integrated into the model, such as scene interaction, virtual experience and practical training. After continuous improvement, a complete practical training and interactive teaching system was set up and organically combined with theory teaching. The follow-up survey shows that the novel teaching model promoted the teaching effects and improved students’ comprehensive abilities and it could be applied in related teaching activities.

Abstract:Graduation design is not only the most important comprehensive practical teaching component for civil engineering majors at the undergraduate education stage, but also one of the primary phases for training excellent engineers. Several classic problems about the graduation design currently exist in application-oriented institutes. Based on the “excellent engineer training program” established by the Ministry of Education, the teaching reform of graduation design was studied in the following aspects: the topic selection, the teaching method optimization, the innovation system establishment, the teachers’ ability improvement, the management appraisal system and the safe concept of civil engineering. Abstract:To increase the teaching effect of seismic design of building structures, a new media, microblog, was combined with conventional teaching method to explore innovative teaching ideas. The advantages of microblog in teaching were analyzed first and then the teaching practice using microblog in the course of seismic design of building structures was illustrated. Finally, the existing problems in current teaching using microblog were analyzed. The practice shows that using microblog can increase the teaching effect and efficiency, which provides a reference for the optimization of teaching mode and methods.

Abstract:Soil mechanics course focuses on both fundamental theories and engineering practice. Due to the limitation of available practical teaching conditions, some important teaching contents, such as plate loading test, are inaccessible at present and the soil mechanics teaching does not have ideal effect. Finite element software for soil mechanics teaching was developed in the study. By means of it, students can simulate plate loading test and triaxial tests under variant drained conditions easily. The practical teaching result shows that the software enriches the practical teaching resources for soil mechanics.

Abstract:Concrete structure design principle is one of main courses of civil engineering major in colleges and universities. According to characteristics of engineering-application-oriented colleges and the actual situation of colleges and universities, and taking the design of large eccentricity compressive members and small eccentricity compressive members as examples, the way of teaching reform of civil engineering major was explored by applying the modeling calculation function into the concrete structure design principle teaching. Students’ study interest was stimulated and the teaching effect was improved. Applying Excel software in the course teaching can also make students skilled in using Excel in graduation design and work in the future.

Abstract:There are 204 students and 26 teachers participated in the questionnaire of classroom teaching evaluation index system in the research. The results show that students and teachers highly agreed in 15 indicators, including 9 same indicators with a slightly different order. The same indicators mainly concentrated in the “teaching enthusiasm” and “homework/assessment”. Specific to the indicators on the degree of recognition, students and teachers had obviously different recognition. That is because they judged the indicators based on their own views. We found that the evaluation of teachers’ classroom teaching is complicated and we should take the needs of students and teachers into full consideration and pay attention to the developmental function of the evaluation.
