    • Exploration and practice of education for intelligent construction major

      Abstract:Intelligent construction is an inevitable trend of high-quality development and transformation and upgrading of the construction industry. Under the high integration of industrialization and information technology, it uses new technology to enable the construction process and promotes the upgrading of factors of production, productivity and production relations of engineering construction activities, and the corresponding demand for talents to support industrial upgrading has also changed. To meet the new demands of knowledge and ability required by intelligent construction professionals, this paper systematically sets up a distinctive interdisciplinary integrated training system, introduces the construction plan of Chongqing University's intelligent construction major, and introduces the innovative exploration and thinking from the aspects of training objectives, course system and teaching mode. It provides a reference for the talent training of intelligent construction specialty and the construction of related specialty in China.

      Abstract:With the integration of traditional construction fields with information technology, the concept of intelligent construction came into being. Intelligent construction has also become the direction of opening a major in colleges and universities, but the establishment of intelligent construction programme is still in the initial stage. The school-running philosophy, curriculum system, and talent training of intelligent construction have not yet reached a consensus, and the teaching plan is urgently needed. Based on the results of a questionnaire survey for 30 college teachers in civil engineering and related majors, this paper clarifies the five challenges faced by the intelligent construction programme, and combining with the new requirements for the construction of emerging engineering disciplines, proposes a new teaching scheme model of intelligent construction programme from perspectives of curriculum system, teacher strength, teaching method, teaching platform, and management system. Also, the authors construct a "P-S-R (Pressure-Stress-Response)" framework system of intelligent construction programme and plan the path of intelligent construction programme and the development focus of each period. It is expected to provide reference for the establishment of intelligent construction majors in colleges and universities.

      Abstract:To promote the reform, development, and upgrade of the construction industry, it is necessary to vigorously promote emerging engineering education and cultivate innovative talents. Beijing University of Technology took the lead in carrying out the research and practice of the construction of the intelligent construction major, and proposed a comprehensive digital teaching model based on a new teaching platform. The school has determined the talent training goal of the intelligent construction major, and has explored the construction of curriculum clusters to create a cluster curriculum system for the intelligent construction major. Relying on the school's subject advantages and scientific research strength, based on the learning process, with "oriented to complete tasks" as the core of teaching, a new teaching platform has been prepared. Relying on the new teaching platform, the teaching mode has been reformed from the technical level, the software level and the hardware level to improve the quality of teaching. At the same time, the students' knowledge structure has been improved, their logical thinking ability has been improved, and it has provided support for cultivating innovative professional and technical talents.

      Abstract:In the context of inventory planning, the urban renewal in China has entered a new stage of quality improvement and multi-governance, while the separation between the old community in colleges and the surrounding community runs counter to it. This paper takes the "hole" in the border fence between the east community of South China University of Technology and the Wushan Garden community in Tianhe district, Guangzhou as the research object. From three dimensions:requirements, management modes and supportive policies, this paper explores the causes of the "hole" and the possibility of opening the "hole" by measuring, tracking, questionnaire and interview. This paper proposes that understanding the management mechanism, building the co-governance platform and setting the stage goals are the ways to promote community co-governance and boundary reconstruction, and to improve the community living circle and realize the resource sharing.

      Abstract:Community construction is an important method of urban stock renewal, and its starting point is to promote the well-being of residents. For this purpose, the paper is based on the theories related to well-being in the field of positive psychology, searching for the intersection of positive psychology and design, applying positive design framework in community construction. The framework shows that design can be source, symbol, enablement and support of happiness, promoting people's positive emotions, participation, positive relationships, meaning and achievement. Verifying the theoretical framework by practice of community construction in DGZ South Street, Guangzhou, we make the conclusion that positive design framework can be applied in community construction.

    • Exploration and thinking on the construction of discipline competition of urban underground space engineering

      Abstract:The national college students' subject competition is an important means to stimulate students' interest in learning, cultivate their innovative thinking, train their teamwork, improve their comprehensive quality and increase their communication. Urban underground space engineering specialty was first established by Central South University in 2002, which is a relatively new specialty. The corresponding discipline competition of urban underground space engineering specialty has also been held for a short time. At present, only four sessions have been held. Although there are more and more participating colleges and universities with the increase of holding sessions, most universities have not formed a systematic discipline competition construction mode. In order to give full play to the role of discipline competition in talent training and improve the level of undergraduate discipline competition, this paper takes the urban underground space engineering specialty of Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology as an example, analyzes the current situation of the discipline competition, puts forward the establishment of unified management system relying on provincial key laboratory, and proposes the construction ideas of discipline competition. Finally, it discusses the significance of discipline competition on teaching reform and talent training. It's necessary to take this opportunity to improve the level of student participation, enhance the influence of discipline competition, give full play to the significance of discipline competition in talent training, and provide strong support for discipline construction.

      Abstract:Taking 1 602 papers about innovative talents training published in Chinese Social Sciences Citation Index (CSSCI) database from 1998 to 2019 as research samples, the paper analyzes the distribution of publication year, research institutions, core journals and research authors systematically by bibliometric analysis, and analyzes the hot topics and research trends about innovative talent training in China by visualized analysis with CiteSpace. Research results show that the hot topics of innovative talents training in China mainly include cultivation system, cultivation mode, teaching system and cultivation standards, and the research evolution process can be roughly divided into four stages. In the future, research can be carried out around the cultivation law and path, "double first-class" construction, emerging engineering education, morality-preferred and people-oriented responsibility, education internationalization and other research fields.

      Abstract:The tutorial system for undergraduates is an important method to deepen the reform of engineering education, to promote first-class education for undergraduates, to improve talent training quality, and to facilitate individualized development. A case study of the tutorial system of School of Civil Engineering and Architecture in Wuhan Institute of Technology is conducted. The experience and achievements in the past eight years are summarized, and the deficiencies and shortcomings are analyzed. Relevant suggestions such as strengthening theory propaganda, clarifying the connotation of tutorial system, enhancing the rewarding and punishing system to stimulate teachers' and students' enthusiasm, developing individualized and comprehensive plans, promoting team-work collaborations, and increasing corresponding supports to build an interactive platform are put forward, in order to improve the efficiency of the tutorial system, contribute an all-round growth of the undergraduates' competency in learning, scientific research, practice and innovation, and improve the school's education quality. It is also expected to provide references for the other schools and colleges that also conduct the tutorial system for undergraduates.

      Abstract:To improve the basic scientific research ability of graduate students and ensure the quality of dissertation, this paper clarifies the connotation and extension of the fundamental scientific research ability from the perspective of universities and tutors. The fundamental scientific research ability of graduate students includes two aspects, which are subjective aspect and objective aspect. The subjective aspect is the subjective initiative of graduate students, while the objective aspect refers to the scientific literacy and professional technical means. The subjective and the objective aspect interact with each other. Thesis proposal, mid-term examination and defense are the three key nodes of graduate research. It is an important guarantee for the research quality of graduate thesis to effectively complete the work required by these key nodes.

      Abstract:The development of digital technology and the improvement of information technology provide new methodology and theoretical support for urban and rural planning, and strengthen the rational core of it. However, the curriculum based on information integration is still in a weak position in the graduate teaching of urban and rural planning. Based on the analysis of the improvement of information skills and the absence of information literacy training in the teaching system of urban and rural planning graduate students in China, this paper analyzes the response to the information trend in postgraduate training of three European and American universities famous in urban planning, and puts forward corresponding suggestions from three aspects:training objectives, curriculum setting and training mode, in order to provide reference for postgraduate training in urban and rural planning in China.

      Abstract:As a part of the teaching system of architecture and civil engineering, building structure has always focused on teaching structural concepts and principles to students with an engineering mindset. While the history of the development of building structure technology is combined with historiography to show students the whole process of its dynamic development. It not only covers the explanation of the basic principles of different types of structures, but also involves in-depth interpretation of multiple perspectives such as material selection, invention, historical figures, system construction and regional culture. The course of development history of building technology, which has been offered by the Institute of Building Technology and Science, School of Architecture, Southeast University, for master students in recent years, is taken as an opportunity. Based on the results of the teaching exploration of the course of development history of building structure technology, combined with the relevant literatures and knowledge, the lineage of the development history of building structure technology is integrated. It provides a new perspective for teaching structural courses to students in higher architecture schools, completes the series of teaching system of the development history of building technology and injects the vitality of the new era.

      Abstract:Based on the concept of engineering education, supporting effect of structural mechanics to graduation requirements of civil engineering specialty is analyzed. In view of the course features of structural mechanics, teaching ideas of structural mechanics are designed in accordance with golden course standard. Take the course content of force method for solving statically indeterminate structure for example, methods such as case teaching method, heuristic teaching method, discussion teaching method and so on are adopted. First the statically indeterminate structure is introduced from project cases, then specific ideas and steps of solution with force method are discussed, finally the knowledge learned is applied to solve steel structure engineering problems of the stadium in Zhengzhou Olympic Sports Center, thus general engineering problems and complex engineering problems are all solved. The teaching process achieves good results, which provides references for teaching of other foundation engineering courses.

      Abstract:For some issues of common interest in specialty course teaching for undergraduate students majored in engineering, Tsien's thought on modern scientific and technological systems is adopted, and the viewpoint of "three-incorporation" in teaching, i.e., the incorporation of scientific common basis and special engineering problems, the incorporation of scientific principles and experiences or commonsense in daily life and industrial production, and the incorporation of qualitative concepts and quantitative methodologies, is proposed. The idea is illustrated by taking the teaching of the undergraduate course of loads and structural design principles as an example.

      Abstract:With the rapid development of information technology, "internet+" education has been getting more and more attention. Compared with elementary and secondary education, the specialty attribute of higher education is distinct, the object of specialty course is limited due to the diversity of the universities. Therefore, "internet+" in higher education is lagging behind. By analyzing the situation of MOOC resources of the typical engineering specialty-building environment and energy application engineering, combined with the development of specialized course teaching in higher education, the main problems of "internet+" technology integrating in specialized course teaching are combed. According to the adaptation of college teachers and students to the common online platform, together with the advantage and characteristics of "internet+" technology, a whole process teaching mode is proposed based on common internet platform. The teaching mode is based on internet platform which could easily build a virtual + real classroom and integrate the on-class and off-class time. The mode has been put in the teaching practice of the course of heating and cooling sources engineering and got a good teaching effect.

      Abstract:Application-oriented talents are one of the major talent gaps currently. However, the traditional teaching methods cannot meet the needs of cultivating applied technical talents. Classroom teaching reform is an important link in improving applied talent-cultivation system. In this paper, characteristics of applied undergraduate teaching and problems of classroom teaching are analyzed first, and following the criteria of golden course, the research and practice on blended learning based on SPOC for engineering courses in application-oriented universities is carried out with the soil mechanics course as an example from the aspects of teaching design, classroom assessment, student achievement and teaching reflection. The practice shows that without the increase of class hours after blended learning, study initiatives are improved and good effects have been got. It provides reference for engineering curriculum construction and teaching practice in application-oriented universities and better practices the teaching concept of "student-centered, outcome-based and ability-oriented".

    • Methodology: The analysis of spatial operation method with architecture curriculum design results as an example

      Abstract:Due to architecture courses' characteristics of combination of sensibility and rationality, connection of art and technology, it is difficult to measure the conception, deepening process and design results of architectural courses. This also makes design course teaching generally have no rules to follow and cannot be followed, and it is difficult to use standard methods and step-by-step procedures to explain and impart the courses. The teaching effect fluctuates greatly. Taking the curriculum design results of third grade of architecture as an example, by analyzing the spatial operation method, the students are guided to master the learning method of adapting to task goals and restricting elements and construct a self-contained and logically mature design vocabulary, and students' professional accomplishment is cultivated from the shallow to the deep and from the simple to the complex.

    • Experimental study on the overall stability of bamboo- skin axial compression box member

      Abstract:Axial compression test is carried out based on 114 bamboo skin box-section columns, and the overall stability performance of equilateral box-section columns made of bamboo skins with 0.35mm and 0.5mm thickness specifications under different width-to-thickness ratios is studied. Based on the test results, the instability failure form and the overall stability coefficient of the bamboo skin box-section column are analyzed. The test results show that when the box-section member is loaded, there are both local instability and overall bending instability. Among the members with a slenderness ratio less than the critical slenderness ratio, local instability is the main component under compression, and overall instability is dominant in the members with a slenderness ratio greater than critical slenderness ratio. By analyzing and fitting the test data, the critical slenderness ratios of the box sections with three width and thickness ratios of two types of bamboo skins are calculated, and the design method of the column curve and bearing capacity of the box members with axial compression of bamboo skins is proposed, which provides scientific theoretical basis and calculation formula for the section design of members in the structural design competition.

    • An empirical research on the effectiveness and generalizability of visual feedback paradigm in English phonetics learning

      Abstract:Due to the particularity and complexity of English phonetic learning, English phonetic researches have received less attention compared with other language skills. The emergence of computer-assisted language learning makes speech visualization possible. However, relevant studies have shown that although visual feedback has a positive impact on speech learning, most studies only focus on the super-segmental features of speech sound, while other parts of the speech systems are not involved. Based on the use of Praat, a speech visual analysis software, this study uses visual feedback paradigm (VFP) in speech teaching, and takes the speech intensity ratio as the test standard to study and analyze the situation of learners' speech learning, and makes the following conclusions:first, using VFP in speech teaching could achieve better results than traditional auditory training, and the speech improvement achieved has continuous effect; second, the impact of VFP at the word level could be extended to similar utterance or sentence level, and the promotion is also persistent; third, students make positive comments towards VFP. They believe that visual feedback provides obvious image differences and can reflect the relative length and intensity of individual phonemes, thus providing guidance for their pronunciation. This study demonstrates the effectiveness and generalization of VFP for English pronunciation learning, as well as the potential practical value of using VFP in second language speech classes.

      Abstract:Based on international engineering education certification standards, carrying out engineering specialty construction and reform, strengthening curriculum-based ideological and political education, and promoting the construction of first-class disciplines are one of the main tasks of colleges and universities. Based on the analysis of 12 graduation requirements of engineering education certification standard and the connotation of curriculum-based ideological and political education, it is found that curriculum-based ideological and political education can cover all the non-technical index requirements of engineering certification. It is proposed that curriculum-based ideological and political education needs top-level design. Taking civil engineering major of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics as an example, the overall top-level design is proposed from the perspective of professional talent training system. Combining the ideological and political objectives with the graduation requirements of certification standard in a planned way, the ideological and political objectives are implemented through the curriculum, so as to achieve the overall quality requirements of engineering talents training.

      Abstract:Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the state has put forward new requirements for ideological and political education in colleges and universities. Based on the construction requirements of ideological and political education in universities, taking the course of seismic design of building structure in College of Civil Engineering of Tongji University as an example, by analyzing the meaning and target of ideological and political education, combining with the three core ideas of student centering, outcome based education, and continuous quality improvement in engineering education accreditation, moral education elements in civil engineering has been excavated. Based on the characteristics of the course of seismic design of building structure, this paper explores the teaching reformation path. Starting from the three levels of teaching objective, teaching content, teaching form and mechanism, this paper puts forward suggestions for the teaching reformation of curriculum-based ideological and political education:firstly, it should straighten out values from the fundamental level of teaching objective, and make clear who to train, how to train and for whom to train; secondly, ideological and political elements should reflect the specific content of the course and be skillfully integrated into the teaching spontaneously and silently; finally, student-centered teaching forms and mechanisms should be reformed to improve students' self-perceived ideological and political abilities.

      Abstract:Targeted financial-aid research is a key topic discussed by universities in recent years. Based on the "targeted financial-aid" policies put forward by the Ministry of Education and other national ministries, this paper makes a survey of the current targeted financial-aid work in colleges and universities, analyzes the current situation and existing problems of the financial-aid work combined with the actual situation in colleges and universities, and discusses the mechanism of targeted financial-aid for college students. We should establish the concept of development-oriented financial-aid, establish a mechanism for identifying students with financial difficulties, a collaborative guarantee mechanism and an educating in financial-aid mechanism to ensure targeted financial-aid in colleges and universities.

As the absence of top-level design of "three-wide education" synergetic mechanism, isolation and disconnection of collaborative education subjects, and insufficient linkage of collaborative education platform in colleges and universities, Sino-foreign cooperative schools shall combine their own characteristics, take moral cultivation as the guide, take Marxist theory as the guidance, adopting methods like top-level design, social resources integrating and scientific evaluation mechanism introducing, to build a multi-level education system, optimize "three-wide education" synergetic mechanism, and make joint efforts by all staffs in whole process and all directions. A "three-wide education" synergetic mechanism must be constructed from dimensions of education concept, platform, system and resource to form a joint effort system and good education mechanism in joint education, accurate education, position education and social practice education, and thus to promote Sino-foreign cooperative schools' ideological and political education to be more scientific, standardized and efficient, meanwhile. It can provide theoretical basis and practical guidance for training modern talents with strong national feelings, broad international vision, profound professional foundation and outstanding innovative and practical ability.
