Abstract:ChatGPT as a generative AI language model, has aroused a heated discussion on its application in the field of higher education. At present, universities around the world have different attitudes towards ChatGPT, which reflects the hidden worries about the application of ChatGPT in the field of higher education. These worries mainly involve weakening the subjectivity of students’ learning, threatening the cognition of university teachers’ identity and impacting on academic ethics. This anxiety stems in part from concerns about the impact of the new information technology revolution on the shape of education and the logic of materialization in higher education. Therefore, it is necessary to insist to the value criterion of people-oriented and rationally view the human-machine relationship in the era of artificial intelligence, and insist to the true nature of higher education and let the practice of higher education return to the goal of shaping students’ minds. At the same time, we should take the initiative to meet the challenges brought by ChatGPT and take defensive measures.

Abstract:Assessing the innovative potential of graduate students has an important impact on China’s construction of innovative nation. To assess the innovative capabilities of engineering graduate students, this article firstly constructs an evaluation index system through literature analysis, expert opinion consultation and other methods from the six aspects of personal thinking, theoretical basic teaching, multi-disciplinary intersection, scientific research support conditions, social practice ability and mentor education mechanism. Secondly, a comprehensive assessment model for the innovation capabilities of engineering graduate students is developed through two evaluation methods, namely the TOPSIS method and the comprehensive index method. A comprehensive assessment is conducted to a sample of 24 graduate students specializing in engineering management within the civil engineering program at the School of Civil Engineering and Architecture, East China Jiaotong University. The evaluation outcomes of the two evaluation methods are basically the same, underscoring their capacity to impartially depict the innovation capabilities of engineering graduate students. The primary factors currently influencing the innovative capabilities of new engineering graduate students are their individual thought processes and personality traits, mentoring mechanism, and social practice ability. Therefore, corresponding measures should be taken to cultivate their innovation interests, formulate reasonable training plans, and vigorously support practical activities, so as to boost the innovative skills of graduate students in new engineering programs.

Abstract:Outcome-based education (OBE) is the basis of engineering education accreditation. Moreover, establishing a curriculum continuous quality improvement mechanism under OBE is now the bottom line of engineering education accreditation. Therefore, this paper proposes a whole process curriculum continuous quality improvement framework. A whole process achievement assessment method for the course objectives is established by integrating formative and summative evaluations. Taking the case of technical and professional foreign language course, the whole process assessment and continuous improvement are carried out on the 2016 and 2017 undergraduates. According to the formative evaluation, the increasing rates of the course objectives’ achievements increase with the advancing of the course. The summative course objective achievements of 2017 undergraduates increased by 13.1% compared with 2016 undergraduates, and the achievement of graduation attribute observation point increased by 12.7%. Therefore, the whole process achievement assessment and continuous improvement enhance the teaching results in both the current and next round and serve the undergraduates’ promotion of ability to solve complex engineering problems in civil engineering. The research may provide a reference for the construction and continuous improvement of the engineering curriculum.

Abstract:The evaluation of curriculum teaching quality is an important part of the quality assurance system of talents training in colleges and universities. However, the evaluation of curriculum quality always has difficulties such as diversification of evaluation criteria、insufficient objective criteria for evaluation and low differentiation of evaluation results. At present, the in-depth development of engineering education professional certification has put forward higher requirements for curriculum teaching quality evaluation (referred to as course evaluation). The evaluation work needs to carry out the certification concept of output-oriented, student-centered and continuous improvement. The requirements of professional certification not only bring more challenges to the reasonable evaluation of curriculum teaching quality, but also provide a new way to solve the problem of quality evaluation. Focusing on the evaluation of theoretical courses of civil engineering majors, based on the concept of OBE, the evaluation subjects and objects, evaluation standards, evaluation indicators, evaluation perspectives, evaluation basis and evaluation methods are discussed. Taking various evaluation subjects as the clue, this paper discusses the problems encountered by different evaluation subjects in the course evaluation practice and the solutions. Through the practice and exploration in recent years, the solutions such as peer evaluation and the system of peer mutual hearing guarantee the smooth progress of the course evaluation work, and teachers’ investment in teaching has continuously improved and the teachers’ understanding and support of this work have continuously improved. The reliability of the overall course evaluation conclusions are relatively good. The average score of the overall evaluation of the college increases year by year, and students’ satisfaction is good. The college has continuously obtained more teaching achievements and teaching awards. The basic evaluation data accumulated in recent years can draw the outline of the overall curriculum teaching quality of the college, which provides support for the further in-depth reform of the curriculum evaluation work. The research provides reference for civil engineering colleges with a large scale of teachers and students.

Abstract:The joint construction of schools and enterprises is a normalized path for the reform and development of new engineering education today, which is also an important content and inevitable choice for establishing and improving the new engineering curriculum system. Due to the insufficient depth of cooperation between schools and enterprises at present, a comprehensive and systematic talent cultivation system is in great need to be formed, which is related to the current employment problem of college students. Through conducting a questionnaire on employment issues among engineering college students, we find that there are problems in the current cooperation chain between schools and enterprises in new engineering major, such as mismatched development between supply and demand, weak integration of learning and application, and insufficient practical training. Based on the characteristics of new engineering curriculum and the close integration of theory and practice, this study proposes the development strategy and path design of new engineering curriculum system under the guidance of school-enterprise cooperation. A dual teaching mode that combines classroom teaching in universities and practical teaching in enterprises is proposed. Through reforms in curriculum teaching design, practical application forms, and skill assessment and evaluation, the proposed mode strengthens the integration and sharing of educational resources through the cooperation between schools and enterprises. The emphasis has been placed on improving students’ ability to closely integrate theoretical learning with engineering practice. The new curriculum enforces engineering cognition and practice ability evaluation, which can cultivate engineering skilled talents who can keep pace with the times and adapt to the current industry needs.

Abstract:Engineering ethics education can help engineering students improve their ethical and moral standards, and enhance their sense of social responsibility. In recent years, China has proposed the construction of new engineering discipline, aiming to cultivate interdisciplinary talents with a global perspective, innovative thinking, and engineering practical abilities. The goals of new engineering education not only include equipping students with a solid foundation in engineering knowledge but also emphasize the development of high professional qualities and ethical standards. Engineering ethics involves ethical considerations behind engineering practices, social responsibility, environmental protection, and other ethical issues. It contributes to nurturing students’ awareness of ethics, morality, and social responsibility, providing ethical guidance for engineering practices. Therefore, offering engineering ethics education can contribute to the cultivation of new engineering technicians for new engineering discipline. In 2018, the State Council Academic Degrees Committee required graduate students pursuing a master’s degree in engineering major to take the engineering ethics course. But at present, there are many problems existed in engineering ethics education, leading to low teaching effectiveness and low learning levels for students, as well as low level of engineering ethics. This research analyzes the current difficulties in engineering ethics teaching and proposes corresponding solutions. Moreover, it conducts a comprehensive teaching innovation design for engineering ethics teaching based on the requirements of new engineering education, including teaching content, teaching methods, and evaluation methods. The teaching content is reformed from five aspects: cultivating innovative thinking, interdisciplinary integration, practical education, international perspective, and social responsibility. The teaching method adopts a task driven hybrid teaching mode based on the development of student-centered teaching philosophy. The evaluation method adopts four methods: task evaluation, questionnaire survey, data evaluation and homework evaluation, to comprehensively evaluate students’ engineering ethics level and the teaching effect.

Abstract:In order to accelerate the transformation and upgrading of the construction industry in the direction of industrialization, digitization and intelligence, many universities are actively developing intelligent construction majors and offering a series of new courses. Among them, construction 3D printing is one of the featured courses, and its teaching content involves knowledge in the fields of machinery, materials, and information. There are some problems with traditional classroom teaching and large-scale experiments, such as the low interest of students in learning and the low efficiency of knowledge understanding, as well as the large-scale experiments are limited by the high cost, long production cycle, and low finished product rate of 3D printing. Therefore, it is necessary to explore online-offline hybrid teaching mode to stimulate students’ learning interest and fully cultivate their practical spirit and innovation ability, so as to effectively enhance the teaching effect. This study discusses the content design and practical operation of online-offline hybrid teaching mode by taking the construction 3D printing course in the intelligent construction program of Huazhong University of Science and Technology as an example. The course builds a virtual simulation system for 3D printing, which provides tools such as 3D model format conversion, automatic model detection, and model repair, allowing students to perform virtual printing operations and make adjustments to the parameters of the printed model at the lowest cost and in the shortest time. In addition, the industrial-grade six-axis robotic arm-based 3D printing equipment is used to carry out offline printing practice, and the establishment of a standardized printing process ensures the accuracy of the printed components. Through the concrete printing instance of the Moon Pot Zun shell structure, the complete learning process under this mode is introduced. This teaching mode meets the three-one talent cultivation concept of mastering a software language, driving a hardware device, and solving an engineering problem, which can provide a useful reference for other universities to carry out the teaching of construction 3D printing.

Abstract:Practice teaching is an important part of undergraduate teaching of civil engineering. Curriculum ideological and political education is an effective channel for cultivating high-quality talents with correct political direction and solid professional knowledge and skills. Integrating curriculum ideological and political education into practical teaching is a requirement of the current higher education reform, and it is also a key measure to realize whole process of education. This paper takes the course of engineering geology practice of the civil engineering major in Wuhan Institute of Technology as an example to analyze the current situation of curriculum ideological and political education, and propose a series of improvement methods, such as, improving the ideological and political awareness of college teachers by holding training activities and increasing support, carefully designing practical routes according to talent training objectives and teaching content and deeply exploring curriculum ideological and political elements, flexibly using a variety of teaching methods to implement ideological and political education, and setting up three feedback channels in the short-term, medium-term and long-term to investigate the implementation effect of curriculum ideological and political education. Practice shows that the above measures have achieved good results in the engineering geology practice course, realized the synergistic effect of professional knowledge teaching as well as ideological and political education. The research results can provide some reference for the curriculum ideological and political education in civil engineering and similar majors in practice teaching links.

Abstract:Taking fostering virtue through education as the fundamental task of education, taking all kinds of courses and ideological and political courses together with a synergistic effect, and building a pattern of educating personnel by the whole staff, in the whole process and in all courses are key reform directions of curriculum education in colleges and universities. Ground treatment technology is a professional course for undergraduates in civil engineering, hydraulic engineering, marine engineering and so on. Its curriculum-based ideological and political education has problems such as fragmentation and loose connection with the curriculum knowledge system. Combining with the content and characteristics of the ground treatment technology course, the following teaching reforms are carried out. Firstly, the overall construction policy of four in one of national demand–engineering problems–interdisciplinary–ideological and political education is put forward. Secondly, the curriculum teaching goal serving the requirements of professional graduation and the curriculum education goal serving the ideological and political education of professional courses are briefly described. Then, based on the knowledge points in the teaching chapters of the ground treatment course, starting from the national major policies and large-scale engineering construction cases, ideological and political materials related to the course teaching content are formulated, and an evaluation system for ideological and political evaluation of curriculum teaching is built. The curriculum ideological and political teaching design and practice system is constructed, organically integrating cutting-edge new engineering connotations into the traditional professional knowledge system of the curriculum, strengthening the humanistic connotation and interdisciplinary intersection, building a curriculum ideological and political case library with distinct characteristics of soil water integration, achieving an organic mapping between curriculum education and professional education, and helping students learn and understand this course more comprehensively and at a deeper level. It provides a reference for the ideological and political education of civil engineering, hydraulic engineering, and marine engineering majors.

Abstract:Curriculum-based ideological and political education is an important way to cultivate people with virtue, cultivate successors for socialist construction, and adhere to the Sinicization of socialism. The blended teaching model is constantly evolving, and it is considered to be the main form of teaching in the future. To realize curriculum-based ideological and political education, blended teaching environment has its unique advantages. This paper first introduces the connotation and significance of curriculum-based ideological and political education in the construction of colleges and universities. It meets the requirements of cultivating people with virtue, cultivating socialist builders and running socialist universities. Then, the advantages of ideological and political education in online + offline courses in blended teaching environment are analyzed. Finally, taking civil engineering as an example, the design is carried out from three aspects: design ideas, teaching process and teaching assessment, and the ideological and political education mode of the curriculum in blended teaching environment is explored. The concept of blended teaching environment has developed rapidly in China, and new platforms and new applications are constantly expanding blended teaching, but it is less applied in actual teaching. For the discipline of civil engineering, in blended learning environment, this paper attaches importance to the function of moral education in design ideas, teaching process and curriculum assessment of professional teaching, makes use of the advantages of blended teaching environment, integrates ideological and political education into educational goals, integrates ideological and political points into education, takes ideological and political effects as the effect of curriculum assessment, promotes the integration of professional knowledge and ideological and political education in the process of online + offline teaching, improves process-based teaching assessment, and proposes online and offline teaching schemes. It meets the requirements of integrating curriculum-based ideological and political education into civil engineering professional education, achieves the feedback loop of mutual promotion between professional courses and ideological and political education, and gradually forms a model of ideological and political education in civil engineering.
