Abstract:The open science movement is reshaping the global scientific ecology and promoting knowledge innovation. Colleges and universities have become key stakeholders in the implementation of the philosophy. Based on the case study method and content analysis method, this study demonstrates the characteristics and results, and summarizes the enlightenments of open access practice of U.S. colleges and universities. With the evolution of open science philosophy, the governance system of open access has been initially formed through shaping philosophy, improving organizations, issuing policies, optimizing infrastructure and strengthening exchanges. While making some progress in providing access, enabling usage and providing matching infrastructure, they also face challenges including insufficient governance efficiency, difficulty in balancing multi-stakeholder interests, and inadequate depth of openness. The practice of U.S. colleges and universities indicates that colleges and universities should actively create open scientific environment, give full play to the functions of interest groups, and learn from the lessons and experiences of open access.

    • Balancing teacher development in the era of generative artificial intelligence

      2026, 35(3):9-16. DOI: 10.11835/j.issn.1005-2909.2026.03.002

      Abstract (19) HTML (20) PDF 743.87 K (28) Comment (0) Favorites

Abstract:Generative artificial intelligence (GAI) is reshaping the education ecosystem, raising risks such as homogenization of teaching design and cognitive homogenization while enhancing teaching efficiency, threatening the subjectivity and humanistic value of education. Technological intervention in education has gone through three stages: instrumental rationality, system integration and intelligent integration, which optimizes the supply of resources but intensifies the worship of data and algorithmic dependence, leading to the alienation of teacher-student relationships. The core function of teachers is rooted in teaching wisdom, value judgment guidance, emotional connection and humanistic innovation, which become the key to resist technological alienation. In order to realize the balance between technological empowerment and educational integrity, it is necessary to build a gradient control system, promote the double-helix professional development path that integrates technological literacy and educational wisdom, and follow the guidelines of human nature first, cultural immunity, cognitive autonomy, and ethical transparency, so as to safeguard the essence of education in dynamic adaptation and promote the sustainable development of human-machine synergy.

Abstract:At present, the postgraduate education in architecture in domestic universities has formed its own characteristics in terms of schooling ideology, curriculum mode and support system, and constructed an innovative and sustainable talent cultivation mode. However, in the practice of moral and intellectual integration education, some universities still pursue short-term benefits, with an obvious utilitarian tendency, deviating from the goal of education. Based on the understanding of the role of the concept of comprehensive education in the cultivation of postgraduate students, and centering around the postgraduate teaching and cultivation program, this paper proposes to build a cultivation model of architectural postgraduate students with the development of disciplines as the lead, moral and intellectual education as the way, and three-whole-education as the core. From the construction of curriculum system, the teaching paths of teachers, tutors’ cultivation mode and institutional guarantee, this paper discusses to promote the formation of a comprehensive cultivation mode of architectural postgraduate students with professional characteristics. The model is of great practical significance for the cultivation of comprehensive talents with both moral integrity and academic competence.

Abstract:With the introduction of the concept of new quality productive forces, scientific and technological innovation has become the core driver of high-quality socio-economic development. This paper, grounded in General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important remarks on sci-tech innovation and new quality productive forces, explores the cultivation of college students’ innovation capabilities from the perspective of new quality productive forces. The interaction between new quality productive forces and students’ innovation ability is a bidirectional empowerment process driven by demand, resource integration, and ecosystem restructuring. On one hand, external factors such as technology and institutional frameworks provide the fuel for student innovation; on the other hand, students’ innovative practices in turn contribute to the advancement of new quality productive forces. The paper further examines current challenges in cultivating college students’ innovation capacity, including disconnections between curricula and real-world needs, underdeveloped training mechanisms, and insufficient initiative among students. In response, it recommends that universities reform their education models to enhance students’ overall competence and innovative potential, thereby aligning with the evolving demands of new quality productive forces and supporting sustainable socio-economic development.

Abstract:Road survey and design is a highly comprehensive and practical course. Traditional teaching fails to consider the characteristics of international students in China, and it is difficult to achieve desirable teaching effects in postgraduate teaching. Firstly, this paper analyzes the current teaching situation of road survey and design course for international students, and sorts out problems existing in the teaching of this course, namely, difficulty in communication between teachers and students, weak academic foundations and large disparities among international students, insufficient suitable textbooks, great difference in teaching modes and learning habits, too much course content but too few teaching hours, difficulty in understanding the teaching content and imperfect evaluation system. Secondly, on the basis of analyzing the above problems, the goal of teaching reform is clarified, and the online and offline mixed teaching mode is reformed and practiced from four aspects: teaching content and design of ideological and political elements, teaching resources, teaching organization and teaching evaluation. Finally, combined with the teaching statistics and questionnaire survey results over the past three years, the practical effect of curriculum reform is analyzed and evaluated. The results show that students hold high recognition towards the online and offline mixed teaching reform, and the gains are generally great; on-line teaching makes up for the lack of class hours to some extent; since the implementation of online and offline mixed teaching, the average scores of students’ test papers and teachers’ evaluation scores have been significantly improved. Through the teaching reform and practice, students’ learning enthusiasm has been fully mobilized, classroom discipline and interaction have also been improved, and the teaching effect has been improved obviously. Relevant results can provide reference for the teaching and reform of other courses.

      2026, 35(3):150-158. DOI: 10.11835/j.issn.1005-2909.2026.03.018

      Abstract (13) HTML (12) PDF 3.72 M (30) Comment (0) Favorites

Abstract:With the rapid development and transformation of China’s construction industry, the education system is also facing new challenges. The Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, in collaboration with the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, has issued a document emphasising the advancement of industrialisation, digitalisation, and intelligent development in the construction sector. This not only provides direction for the industry but also sets new requirements for the education system to cultivate professionals who meet the demands of the new era. As a core course in civil engineering, principles of concrete structure design has highlighted several issues under traditional teaching models: outdated textbooks that are disconnected from industry practices, insufficient online resources to meet diverse learning needs, limited classroom interaction and inadequate teacher-student communication, heavy computational workloads that burden students, and unscientific evaluation system that fails to accurately measure learning outcomes. Therefore, course reform is imperative. Key measures include developing new digital textbooks, building diverse digital resource libraries, establishing digital platforms centred on classroom teaching, creating information-based teaching environments, and adopting a multi-dimensional, quantifiable evaluation system. The reform particularly focuses on enhancing student engagement and practical application skills through new digital textbooks, diverse digital resources, and technologies such as BIM, Matlab, and Digital Image Correlation (DIC). These changes have improved student participation and learning outcomes, fostered the ability to solve complex engineering problems, and laid the foundation for cultivating versatile professionals suited to the needs of the new era.

Abstract:The teaching of fundamentals of concrete structures has long faced challenges, including outdated knowledge systems, rigid teaching methods, and a lack of integration between theory and practice. This has resulted in low student learning efficiency and a tendency for students to lose their interest. This study deeply integrates machine learning into concrete teaching, and constructs a new teaching path of four-step fusion: predictive modeling-constructing, a nonlinear mapping between input parameters and mechanical responses, breaking through the shackles of traditional formulas; interpretive analysis, quantifying the contribution of variables through interpretable machine learning models, transforming empirical coefficients into intuitive expressions of physical logic; discovery of laws, using symbolic regression to mine mathematical formulas that are both accurate and interpretable, and restore the exploration process of scientific laws; intelligent design, generating multi-objective equilibrium solutions based on genetic algorithms, achieving a leap from manual trial-and-error to intelligent optimization. The new teaching path reshapes the knowledge learning model with data thinking, realizing the transformation from static standardized formulas to dynamic renewable models. It reconstructs the teaching methodology, and realizes the transformation from one-way teaching to interactive exploration between teachers and students. It upgrades the ability evaluation system, and realizes the transformation from result assessment to process tracking, and ultimately promotes students to transform from formula applicators to science discoverers, providing new ideas for the cultivation of interdisciplinary talents in the context of new engineering.

Abstract:The major of building environment and energy application engineering is one of the core supporting majors for achieving the carbon peaking and carbon neutrality strategy. However, in recent years, this major has faced the problems of declining attractiveness to students and loss of excellent students. In this regard, this paper proposes to enhance students’ professional identity, stimulate their internal learning motivation, and increase their confidence in the major. As the students’ first practical contact with the major, professional cognition internships can effectively achieve the above goals. Therefore, this study advances the professional cognition internships to the freshman year, and puts forward a curriculum reform approach featuring earlier curriculum arrangement, content innovation, access to cutting-edge technologies, and ideological and political guidance. At the same time, a teaching team with deep professional passion, broad academic vision and student empathy is constructed to realize the two-way transmission of emotional cognition and professional knowledge through internship teaching. Currently, the above reform schemes have been applied to the practical teaching of the building environment and energy application engineering major at Nanjing Tech University, and continuous optimization and exploration will be conducted in subsequent practice.
